The Miracle Business-December 6, 2021

The Miracle Business. Sounds like an interesting line of work.

The Miracle Business

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.    Matthew 4:23

What is a miracle? The dictionary definition is:

noun-a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific               laws  and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.

Ever had a miracle happen in your life?  I think they happen every day.  Some of them are miraculous i.e., something really big, maybe even life changing or life preserving.  But there a multitude of them that happen every day.  Things that we simply take for granted because a lot of them happen over and over.

One of those miracles that happens anytime you want it to is the miracle of prayer.  It is so available and so easy that we might not even think of it as a miracle.  Here's what the late Bobby Bowden wrote in the foreword of a book (" Prayer Coach" by James L. Nicodem)

"Prayer must be the most neglected of powers available to humans.  We have a God who gives us this opportunity to talk to him, tell him,we love him and ask that He take care of our needs.  God wants to talk.  God talks to us when we read the Bible.  We talk to him when we pray."

Think about it.  Here is the Creator of the entire planet and everything in it and we can talk with him.  It's not that He has better things to do.  All things are important to God.

Bobby said: "I have been praying for as far back as I can remember.  God has always answered my prayers, sometimes yes and sometimes no.  It's amazing but some of the no-s have been some of the wisest things that 'never happened' to me. "

Country Music Star Garth Brooks sang this verse in his mega hit "Unanswered Prayers:"

"Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers

Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs

That just because He doesn't answer doesn't mean He don't care

Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers."

I bet you don't even have to think too hard and long to remember a time or times

when one or more of your prayers went unanswered.  You may have been upset at the time,

but it probably worked out for the best in the long run.

There may be a prayer or two that you still can't figure out why a certain result

came  about.  Maybe the end result hasn't come about yet.

Maybe you have a big prayer request.  It may even seem, on the surface that you are

praying for the impossible.  Here's a prayer I discovered on www.crosswalk.com.:

"Father, I come to you today with faith so small I cannot see a way.  I want to believe you are able to do more than I ever imagine.  I want to walk by faith and not by sight.  God please bring a miracle into my life.  I know that you can do the impossible in my  life and I am trusting in your promises.  Thank you for being a God who sees and hears  my every need.  In Jesus' name, Amen!"

And here's A Thankful Miracle Prayer:

"Heavenly Father, Thank You for answering my prayers and performing miracles in my   life every day.  Just the fact that I woke up this morning and can take a breath is a gift   from You.  Help me to never take my health and loved ones for granted.  Help me to         always stand in faith and keep my focus on You when unexpected circumstances arise.  In Jesus name, Amen!"

Tony Dungy in his book "Uncommon Life: The Daily Challenge" used this example of a trap that is easy to fall into when we fail to remember that God is in the miracle business:

"Coaches and teams often talk about 'trap games,' those are games against an inferior opponent, usually with a much better opponent immediately following that game.  We tend to fall into the 'trap' of looking past that game to the next game that follows. And in the process, we often lose.

"The danger, of course, is complacency.  We forget about what is right before us or take it for granted and the next thing we know, we've missed an opportunity.  It happens all the time in our daily lives.  We go so fast through each day, looking past the blessings and opportunities of today, focusing on what we think will be great moments tomorrow."

Jesus went around the countryside healing people and performing miracles.  Then after a while the people began to take Jesus and his miracles for granted like they were nothing special.

Dungy says: "Have we become a bit complacent?  Do we believe in miracles?  Do we believe that God is still performing miracles in the world around us?  Or do we simply believe that they are a biblical phenomenon, and that life today is controlled by the laws of nature, science, and man?

Just like the probability of missing the worthy opponent in a "trap" game, the probability is slim to none that we will ever notice God's miracles in our lives if we don't believe that God is still in the 'miracle business.'"

            But He is!

Prayer:  Lord thank you for all the miracles in our lives.  Help us always to be aware of and give thanks for them.    Amen!
